Importing and scanning

Bringing in files

Drag a PDF, or a whole stack of them, onto the DocuCasa window. Anywhere works. You can also press ⌘⇧I or use the Import button and pick files.

For each document, DocuCasa shows a small form before filing it. It reads the filename and suggests a date, a title, and an amount when it spots one. Filenames with a recognizable date, like 2026-03-12 Geico.pdf or Geico March 12 2026.pdf, arrive with the date already filled in. The date field itself expects one format, YYYY-MM-DD, and it types the way a date field should. Enter the digits and the dashes appear on their own. Prefer a calendar? The date picker beside it takes any date the normal way. However the date arrives, DocuCasa stores it one way, so sorting by date always just works.

The form arrives filled in from the filename. Here it has also noticed the file is already in the vault.

Dropping whole folders

Drop a folder and DocuCasa keeps its structure. Subfolders become folders in your vault, merged by name with the folders you already have. Your filing system survives the move.

Duplicates

DocuCasa checks every incoming file against what's already in the vault and quietly skips exact copies. Importing the same statement twice does nothing, which is the correct amount of nothing.

Scanning paper

Choose File › Scan… to open the scanner window. It talks to document scanners the Mac already knows, and to your iPhone through Continuity Camera. Press From iPhone, photograph the page, and it lands like any scan. Scanned pages become PDFs, are read by text recognition, and are searchable like everything else.
